About

WHAT WE DO

Forward Fruit is a Chicago-based branded environments and experiential design studio. In applying a strategic, user-driven methodology to hyper creative projects, we create soulful, on-brand solutions that are exciting, beautiful, and inspire brand-user connections.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our work considers people first. We all love beautiful spaces, but what good are they really when the people who are in them feel...left out? True, it is the designer’s job to make a declaration about what looks best, what to implement and what to edit. But what happens when we do both? We create beautiful spaces with intention and soul.

LEADERSHIP

ELISE METZGER, PRINCIPAL Elise is a Chicago-based designer, originally from Boston. While her love of making and the arts is life-long, she began her formal design education as an architecture and design student, and her career creating retail displays and museum exhibits. She has created large scale retail environments for Anthropologie, helped revitalize and develop brands for SC Johnson, designed trade show booths and branded environments for Brainlab, styled photo shoots for several national food and home decor brands, and launched a multi-city, design driven supper club. Her work has been featured in media outlets such as Martha Stewart and Rue, and written about in Travel and Leisure and Luxe Interiors and Design. There is nothing she loves more than seeing a project through from strategy to creative execution. Elise holds a BFA in Interior Design and Architectural Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Masters of Design Strategy from the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology.

MARISSA SMITH, PRINCIPAL Marissa is a Chicago native, born with a love for beautiful spaces, objects and the stories they encapsulate. Though she began her career as an interior designer at award-winning international interior and product design firm, Gary Lee Partners, her innate curiosity, thirst for research-driven human-centered design and fascination with branding led her to a new creative path collaborating with brands to realize their full potential in the spaces and places they inhabit. She has been fortunate to creatively collaborate with many premier and innovative brands across all categories, including Moen, House of Rohl, Kellogg Business School, Land O’Lakes, Philosophy (beauty brand), CA Ventures Student Living, and Skender Construction. In all of her work, Marissa leans into a creative philosophy centered on meaning, purpose and sound research centered on the end user, with a belief that the best brands live at the intersection of all three. Marissa holds a Masters in Branding from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and B.S. in Interior Design from LaRoche College in Pittsburgh, PA.
